Summary and Challenges The temperature within lift shafts can reach high levels during hot weather, subjecting workers working inside to severe discomfort, loss of focus and risk of hyperthermia. Furthermore, it is not spatially practical to install ventilation facilities inside lift shafts. This project aims to develop a prototype of a wearable cooling accessory with an ergonomic design which could effectively improve the well-being of workers when working inside lift shafts. The prototype will be evaluated in a trial for selected workers that have to conduct work inside lift shafts.
Expected Outcome A prototype of the wearable cooling accessory shall be designed, developed, produced, tested and commissioned. The design for the wearable cooling accessory shall take into account factors such as size, weight, ease of use, durability and effectiveness of cooling throughout the work period.
Expected Trial Duration 12 months, which includes the design, development, production and trial of the product.
