Use of Infrared Technology for Rapid Soil Moisture Content Determination

I&T Wish Use of Infrared Technology for Rapid Soil Moisture Content Determination
(REF : W-0263)
Matched I&T Solution
Trial Project
Summary and Challenges This project aims to improve the efficiency and effective functioning of the existing infrared oven model developed by the Public Works Laboratories. The new infrared oven shall use infrared technology for rapid determination of moisture content for wide range of soil types and shall:
  • shorten the drying time required by the existing infrared oven model (currently, it takes about 3.5 hours to complete the soil drying);
  • be applicable to fine to coarse grained soil;
  • keep temperature of soil during the test not exceeding 110 °C;
  • measure change of mass of soil inside the oven automatically at different time; and
  • transfer testing data to the existing laboratory information system.
Expected Outcome Solution provider shall be responsible for designing, developing, constructing and installing the equipment and associated software.
Expected Trial Duration Project duration is expected to be 18 months
