Summary and Challenges

The objective of the project is to detect rail crack at early stage with train mounted devices operating in traffic hours to ensure safe operation of railway.
Expected Outcome The solution shall detect the crack at early stage with high sensitivity and  accuracy. The solution provider shall estimate the sensitivity and accuracy (preferably to be less than 1% error) of the system in the submission.
Expected Trial Duration 6 months (3 months for system design and installation, 3 months on-site learning and testing)

Project Deliverables

The objective of the project is to develop an automatic detection system for rail crack. The system should be operated under traffic hour and could be installed on passenger trains. The system should be able to:

  1. detect rail crack during operation of trains;
  2. provide warning to train driver and operation control centre on location of crack and dimension of the crack;
  3. provide analysis on the risk of the crack to railway safety
