Summary and Challenges This project aims to enhance supervision and ensure the safety of inmates by developing a system that monitors and records the location of the inmates along designated route within Correctional Institution. The System shall provide precise location tracking. The System should also generate alerts when the Inmates deviate from the permitted route or entered prohibited zones. The System should display Inmates' location on a Graphical User Interface (GUI) that allows operators to remotely monitor the location of the Inmates. The backend software should be equipped with position logging and report exporting function. The System should have a database to store information to match and identify the PIC position for display; it should also allow grouping of Inmates to facilitate monitoring. No access to any data is allowed via the extranet, cloud services or any external means.
Expected Outcome A complete solution with
  1. Accurate tracking of Inmates with 0, 1, and 2-dimensional motion tracking capabilities.
  2. Storage of Inmates’ movement record
  3. Restricted zones defined to prevent unauthorized entry with alerts to operators when trespassed
  4. Provision of watch-sized mobile data collectors and communication devices with waterproof and vandal-proof design for 24/7 usage, requiring unique and easy-to-operate hand-tool to unlock.
