Trial Project
Summary and Challenges Falls are a major public health problem among older people. Currently, most market solutions focus on fall detection instead of fall prevention, where damages have been done. The ageing population and growing demand of support poses significant challenges to society and healthcare service providers. In view of this, in order to reduce stress of healthcare professional, it is proposed to develop a solution that could prevent falling incidents in healthcare facilities.
Expected Outcome We propose to develop a fall prevention system that can prevent potential falling incident in near bed-side area in healthcare facilities through early detection and analysis of elderly’s posture change (e.g. attempting to get up from bed).
  • The means of detection could include, but not limited to, detecting abnormal elderly position or posture, thermal sensors on patient beds, pressure sensors on hospital bed rails, sensors on the patients, Electromagnetic wave or LiDAR sensing posture analysis etc.
  • Upon detection of potential incident, a built-in chatbot / speech communication module should be triggered to warn the patient of such danger and to alert the staff nearby to attend to the patient.
  • The communication module shall be able to analysis user’s response. Alarm triggered if no reply or distress signal is received.
  • The system developed should be suitable for monitoring multiple elderlies simultaneously.
  • A user platform / dashboard / mobile app for the nurse / caretaker to centrally monitor different warnings by “speech alarms” and providing data analysis, trend monitoring, and identifying potential risk factors.
  • The detection technologies used shall avoid using personal data (e.g. CCTV) and should not cause privacy issue.
Expected Trial Duration 6-month
