Inno Breathing – Airborne Pathogens Detection System for Indoor Air Quality Control

I&T Wish Inno Breathing – Airborne Pathogens Detection System for Indoor Air Quality Control
(REF : W-0493)
Matched I&T Solution
Trial Project
Summary and Challenges
  • Previous coronavirus disease 2019's (COVID-19) outbreak and seasonal influenza infection has raised public awareness for airborne transmission of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and other respiratory pathogens, especially in the indoor air environment. We observed that currently the Indoor Air Quality standard only monitored the components like carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO), Coarse Particles (PM10)) by Environmental Protection Department.
  • However, the indoor airborne microbes, which cause (COVID-19) outbreak and seasonal influenza infection, has never been considered in the IAQ control and no standard have been developed in this aspect. Also, the current commonly apply technology on PCR tests are based on the swab test on individual, which is ineffective for crowded clinical environment. A PCR test directly apply on the air sampling for detecting Various pathogens was explored.
Expected Outcome
  • The aim of this project is to develop an indoor pathogen monitoring system by the latest " AMST" (Automated Multiplex System) PCR testing. (via Air Sampling)
  • Based on the data collected for analysis, we can develop a standard regarding various indoor airborne microbes and this could monitor and alert users / colleagues when the indoor pathogen level raised to a health threaten level.
  • In addition, standard can be developed to recommend users to take appropriate protective measures before any indoor activities.
  • Possible Outcome of the proposed idea:
    1. Early detection to airborne microbes - The Project is to develop the standard for indoor airborne microbes, hence enable early detection and protection via the AAMST PCR air sampling test to the AHUs air stream in Kowloon Bay Health Centre.
    2. Enhance Occupational safety and health (OSH) - The project also enables direct Air sampling PCR test for detecting Various airborne pathogens, so to prevent the airborne transmission of respiratory pathogens and enhancing OSH.
Expected Trial Duration 18-month
