Summary and Challenges
  • There are multiple construction site accidents occurred in recent years. As the manpower in the construction industry is limited, it is difficult to employ sufficient safety officers to continuously monitor the site safety of the small-scale construction sites.
  • Therefore, there is an emerging need for developing an intelligent site safety monitoring system which is able to enhance site safety, reduce the reliance on safety officers and detect fire outbreaks at small-scale construction sites.
Expected Outcome
  • The purpose of this project is to develop an intelligent site safety monitoring system, which comprises a mobile monitoring station, an off-site server, an online user interface and a mobile tablet, to achieve the following functions.
    1. Fire and smoke Detection (by video analytics using thermal camera and remote smoke & heat detector)
    2. Personal protection equipment identification (by video analytics)
    3. Smoking behaviour identification (by video analytics using a thermal camera and remote smoke & heat detector)
    4. Audio safety notice to workers on-site (e.g. regular audio alert to remind workers to drink water and rest during Heat Stress at Work Warning)
    5. Trespassing detection
    6. Real-time site monitoring
    7. Facial Recognition
    8. Sending alert signals to the supervisor for any abnormality
