Development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Model for Predictive Maintenance of Air Handling Units (AHUs)

I&T Wish Development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Model for Predictive Maintenance of Air Handling Units (AHUs)
(REF : W-0517)
Matched I&T Solution
Trial Project
Summary and Challenges
  • The air handling unit (AHU) in a hospital ward plays a critical role in maintaining a safe and healthy environment for patients and staff. One recurring issue is that the AHUs may break down unexpectedly, leading to unplanned downtime and disruptions to the hospital's operations. This lack of predictive maintenance can also result in costly repairs and replacements.
  • The project aims to develop an artificial intelligence (AI) model for predictive maintenance of AHUs in hospitals.
  • The project is an integrated solution, covering hardware procurement, data collection of the AHUs equipment and components, data cleansing, development of AI model, dashboard design, user training, project documentation and reporting, etc.
Expected Outcome
  • It shall be an integrated system with the following outcomes:
    1. Sensor procurement, installation as well as testing and commissioning (T&C) for data collection;
    2. Data processing and cleansing;
    3. Lifespan prediction and/or trend analysis of AHU component performance. The major components include but not limited to motors, belts, bearings, rotors, fans, balancing and alignments;
    4. Source code of the AI model;
    5. Operations and maintenance manual for the AI model;
    6. A Web-based dashboard which could be reached by EMSD network:
      • showing the performance of each critical component and the trend analysis of the components;
      • prompting alerts when abnormalities are detected;
    7. Accuracy evaluation of the AI model on the prediction of AHUs component faults;
    8. Provide consultancies and recommendations on implementing predictive maintenance system including but not limited to the required data quality, choice of machine learning algorithms and conclude the project with a suggestion report.
Expected Trial Duration 9-month
