Summary and Challenges

This is a proof of concept project by applying 4D colourized LiDAR and generative AI for monitoring the construction site (about 80m x 80m), such as site progress, quality of works, movement of lateral supports and works trend prediction.

  • Multiple LiDAR devices and cameras with wireless transmission system (such as 5G and WiFi) and cloud storage (private cloud) should be installed in the construction site for real-time scanning and image capturing of the site area. The blind spots of site view should be minimized.  5G mobile coverage may be limited at the construction site.  The entire equipment should be installed in outdoor construction areas.
  • Generative AI with a Large Language Model (LLM) should be built on the private cloud for big data analytics, trend prediction, progress monitoring and management report generation. The point cloud data will be compared with the Building Information Modelling (BIM) for discrepancy detections on construction sequence, dimension, position and site boundary.
Remark: The solution proposal should include a preliminary design idea with a block diagram, workflow and budgetary ballpark cost estimate. DevB may invite the proposer to conduct a presentation on its proposal.
Expected Outcome
  • Installation of LiDAR device and camera with associated equipment and accessories at the construction site.
  • Transmitting the real-time point cloud data and image from the construction site to the cloud storage for further data analysis.
  • Producing geo-referenced colourised point cloud.
  • Developing AI models with LLM for data processing, trend prediction, progress monitoring and management report generation.
  • Providing a visualized dashboard to display the analytic results.
  • Sending an instant alert to the management team for any abnormalities detected.
  • Assisting the consultant in preparing the report for reviewing this POC project and making recommendations for further development of this technology for site monitoring works.
