Real-time Lift Monitoring System on Cloud Platform (REF:C-0030)
E&M InnoPortal Trial Project Ref. No.:

Overview

An end-to-end complete lift monitoring system is developed to monitor lift performance in a real-time manner. It consists of non-intrusive sensing devices, wireless connectivity as well as backend mobile and web application. Its functions include real-time lift operation monitoring such as shaking, doors opening while the lift is in motion and predictive maintenance suggestions and reporting. The system can be flexibly deployed on any Cloud platform such as Alibaba Cloud, AWS and Azure or in an on-premise environment.

Problem Addressed

Continuous monitoring is one of the effective measures to predict malfunction of lift components and enhance lift safety. To monitor the running conditions of lifts, the direct way is to obtain signals from lift controllers. However, due to various designs and protocols of lift controllers, it is not easy to deploy a single solution to all lifts. Therefore, non-intrusive sensors are installed in the lifts to capture real-time lift data without contacting lift controllers.

Innovation

The lift monitoring system is compatible with lifts from different brands and provides a wide range of information, including lift car status (e.g. vibration, door status, up/down status, current floor information, levelling status and lift car occupancy status), lift machine room status (e.g. temperature and humidity), lift motor current and voltage values as well as other signals provided by lift controller.

With the sensors, the system can effectively monitor lift operations and generate statistical reports. Big data analytics can be performed to provide predictive maintenance activities. Additionally, the system has the capability to detect abnormal lift activities and promptly trigger real-time alarms. Custom-made dashboards are also designed and deployed to visualise lift journeys and operation modes.

Key Benefits
  • Remote monitoring of lift systems allows for real-time and historical collection of lift running records, facilitating off-site monitoring and analysis of lift performance
  • Minimises potential hazard and reduces downtime to provide better services to lift users
  • With the journey record, the utilisation of lifts can be visualised to gauge whether passenger flow is well managed
  • Lift operation data analysis is useful for the planning and optimisation of routine maintenance
  • Comparison of fault or inspection modes with the log books to ensure that the lift maintenance contractor has performed related routine maintenance or attended the fault call of the lift
