Maintaining an efficient working order of the fire safety system is paramount in building operations while fostering a climate of innovation has also been prominent in the recent decade.
The direct telephone link (DTL) is a major communication link being used for emergency purposes. Therefore, it is crucial to ensure the DTL functions well and is free from faults.
In this innovative solution, the DTL integrates with EMSD's Regional Digital Control Centre (RDCC) to receive and monitor data on the fire alarm status of buildings through internet-of-thing (IoT) based real-time system which data and information can be transferred between Fire Alarm Centre and the RDCC through a communication protocol. By overseeing the DTL status, any emergency issues or faults can be promptly identified, allowing timely repairs and resumption of services to be made.
| Problem Addressed | Temporary shutdown of the fire safety system may be necessary during maintenance, inspection or modification. However, there have been cases where contractors fail to notify the Fire Services Department after completing the work, which poses risks to the fire safety of buildings. To address this issue, the innovative solution enables EMSD staff to monitor abnormal DTL signals and respond promptly. This allows them to take immediate action and ensure the effectiveness of the fire safety system in the buildings. |

| Innovation | In this solution, the real-time signal-based monitoring system is designed to connect the DTL to RDCC system. This allows seamless monitoring of the fire alarm signal, DTL status and DTL Line fault condition. The communication between the fire alarm centre and the RDCC is connected with an application programming interface (API) for remote monitoring and management. With this communication protocol, operation data from selected buildings is transmitted to the dashboard at the control centre. The selected recipient is promptly notified in case of any abnormal status occurs. The IoT-based system allows centralised monitoring of fire signals that enhances the reliability and efficiency of fire safety system. |
