Facial Recognition System for Building Access Control (REF:C-0001)
E&M InnoPortal Trial Project Ref. No.:

Overview

Facial recognition technology has become more and more popular. Apart from smartphone applications, it has also been widely used in access control in authorised zones in recent years as it offers high recognition efficiency and security.

Additionally, it speeds up the flow of people and increases the efficiency of crowd management as people can simply face access control devices at the entrance gates of office buildings to get access grants, without carrying any items like keys or physical cards.

A facial recognition solution was tested at the EMSD headquarters to evaluate the feasibility to adopt facial recognition technology for access control application.

Problem Addressed

To enhance traffic flow during peak hours and improve the user experience, facial recognition technology in the staff access control system has been adopted in this project.

Innovation

Facial Recognition Technology:

  • Staff members were invited to voluntarily participate in this project. Various parameters were tested including the identification accuracy, response time and performance under strong sunlight and etc.
  • After technical evaluation and collecting the users' feedback, the solution proved to be a robust model with outstanding performances in the liveness detection, rapid access, system configurability, and sufficient data protection designed in the system design.
Key Benefits
  • Enhances people flow management
  • Improves convenience for users
  • Demonstrates good performance in detection position, speed of identification, liveness detection and identification accuracy
