Hiker safety is a top priority. The Hiker Safety System for Outdoor Activities is an IoT-based solution that enhances tracking and rescue systems for hiker safety. It consists of IoT tracking devices, a mobile application and a comprehensive management platform. The system enables real-time hiker location tracking and provides SOS services by combining Long Range (LoRa) wireless and satellite positioning.

The tracking devices establish connections with smartphones via Bluetooth Low-energy (BLE), allowing for connectivity switchover between the smartphone's cellular network and the GWIN. This ensures that hikers can send SOS messages and transmit their location data even in areas with weak mobile network coverage. The tracker also achieves a long battery life due to the low power requirements of LoRaWAN and BLE technologies.
