Indoor Navigation System (INS) (REF:C-0024)
E&M InnoPortal Trial Project Ref. No.:

Overview

The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) organised the Inno@E&M Open Day 2022 at the headquarters to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region from 4 to 6 November 2022. As part of the event, an Indoor Navigation System was developed to provide visitors with an interactive and innovative experience through Augmented Reality (AR) indoor navigation and interactive exhibition.

Problem Addressed

The demand for wayfinding solutions has grown due to the increasing complexity of modern environments, such as large buildings and public spaces. Visitors expect seamless and intuitive experiences, leading to an increased need for enhanced user interactions. The INS addresses this demand by providing an innovative and interactive navigation system during the Inno@E&M Open Day 2022.

Innovation

The INS comprises indoor positioning beacons, a cloud-based application server with AR-services and utilises 5G-based data transmission. Visitors can enjoy a novel and interactive exhibition experience at Inno@E&M Open Day 2022 by using their smartphones.

Key Benefits
  • Simplifies indoor wayfinding through AR guidance
  • Serves as a virtual assistant during the exhibition. The INS provides detailed information and presentations to visitors
  • Enhances visitors' overall experience by leveraging AR technologies and interactive engagement with INS
  • Facilitate self-service exhibitions through prior-entered data. The INS reduces manpower for visitor management
