| Solution Feature |
- Use the 5G and satellite positioning information on the motorist’s mobile phone to determine whether the vehicle has entered or exited the charging zone and via the mobile application on motorist's smart device to automatically pay the fees.
- Use 5G cellular based and satellite positioning technology to identify the driver's location, record the time and location of entering / exiting the charging zone and upload it to the backend system for billing processing and record purpose.
- Use the App to provide motorists with useful traffic information.

| Trial Application and Expected Outcome |
- Develop a mobile application to identify time and location of a vehicle entering or exiting the ERP zone and calculate the toll fee, and also upload necessary information to the ERP backend system to simulate ERP procedures and records
- The mobile application can support iOS / Android user interface and simulate the above ERP functions and display real-time traffic information, such as traffic accidents, congestions, pay-zones and alerts, etc
- Combining the experience of the user interface of the existing ETC backend system, develop the ERP backend system with user interface for simulating ERP operations with mobile applications (such as managing ERP user accounts, ERP billing, etc.)
- Conduct a small-scale test focusing on the use of 5G and mainstream GNSS systems and combining with professional opinions of Professor Chen Wu of Department of Land Surveying and Geo-informatics of Hong Kong Polytechnic University to evaluate the feasibility of using mobile applications for ERP operations
- Basing on the test results, submit a feasibility study report. The content of the report includes the accuracy of location positioning in congested urban areas (such as the Central area), recommendations on ERP mobile applications as well as protection of the privacy of motorists
