Automatic Tools Checking and Record System
(REF: S-1192) |
Trial Project |
|
Solution Feature |
- Camera captures a photo of the tools and borrowers identity, entering or leaving the venue and sends the photo to an edge computer. Or, a mobile device (e.g. iPhone) is used for capturing a photo of the tools. Identity of borrowers is saved in database for record retrieval later.
- The photo is processed by a tool recognition program on the edge computer (or on the mobile device).
- The tools in the photo are classified and counted by the tool recognition program: each class of tools is identified and all members of each class are identified, counted, and associated to the class.
- The members of each class are segmented from the photo and grouped together by the class (e.g. hammer) - all classified tools in the photo are stored in a database by date and time stamp.
- When tools re-enter a venue, a photo is taken with borrower identity and all tools returned. They will be compared to those stored in database to see if there are missing or damaged tools - a report will automatically be generated. Photo comparison is done by a robust AI mechanism.
|
Trial Application and Expected Outcome |
- Tools are drawn from the inventory and spread on a table without overlapping. Photos of tools are taken from different angles. The tool recognition program is executed for each photo. Classification and counting accuracies are computed. Trials are repeated for N times.
- Trials for the tools check-out process: after a photo for tools is taken, and the tools are classified and counted by the recognition program, check if the corresponding entry for the tools is stored in the database by the correct date and time stamp.
- After database entry is stored for tool check-out, simulate tool check-in by making missing tools and replacing original tools by their damaged or altered versions. Tools are classified and counted by recognition program. Classification and counting accuracies are computed. Compute accuracy of report for missing/damaged tools.
- Expected outcome: a tools recognition system is built to reduce the tools handling time, avoid human error and enhance the traceability of tools.
- Assumptions: identity of people involved in a tools check-out session may be stored in the database along with their corresponding database entry.
