- Improve hiker safety with minimal additional hardware
- Minimal setup required: install mobile app on smartphone and pair with device over Bluetooth
- Use smartphone’s cellular network whenever available, with LoRaWAN as backup
- Leverage the smartphone’s GPS accuracy, and LoRaWAN wide coverage
- Long battery life due to the low power requirements of LoRaWAN and BLE

| Trial Application and Expected Outcome |
- The mobile app can exchange data with the application server even in the most remote locations
- The trial can use the LoRaWAN Government-Wide IoT Network (GWIN)
- Prototype devices can be used to test all functionality
- A web-based application can visualise locations and alerts
