Door closer-based energy harvester for smart buildings
(REF: S-1205) |
Trial Project |
|
Solution Feature |
- Frequency-up conversion mechanism: The customized gearbox is developed to harvest the ultra-low-frequency kinetic energy of the swing door motions.
- Force-amplification effect: The energy harvester with optimized mechanical parameters will be installed at the designated position of the door closer, forming a labor-saving lever with the door handle.
- High power output. Test results show that the peak power reach up to 7.2 Watts from a normal single door opening moment (angular velocity: 45°/s).
- High efficient Power-management circuit. The customized high-efficiency chip modules store intermittent high-power and serve as a power source for smart electronics.
- Low cost. The cost of fabrication is low (<200 hkd="" set="" and="" it="" is="" suitable="" for="" mass="" production="" and="" promotion="" li="">
|
Trial Application and Expected Outcome |
- Fabricate a prototype. The prototype is equipped with a power management circuit (PMC) that stores intermittent electricity in PMC module.
- Site installation and measurement. The energy harvester is coupled in the door closer and tested in field.
- Optimization for geometric dimensions and circuit parameters.
- Demo of powering a kind of IoTs (i.e., door entrance, sensors) at a normal angular velocity.
- Final report
