TiO2 nano-photocatalytic air sterilizing and purifying device - without consumables
(REF: S-1265) |
Trial Project |
|
Solution Feature |
- Application of titanium dioxide TiO2 based on its photocatalytic germicidal properties in the nano-particulate form
- When TiO2 is exposed to UV light, organic compounds (e.g. odour particles, airborne bacteria, moulds) that touch it break down, without consuming the TiO2
- The irradiation of TiO2 with the UV light produces the hydroxyl radical, hydrogen peroxide and superoxide anions.
- These reactive oxygen species (ROS) can damage the structure and disrupt the biochemistry of bacteria and virus-infected cells. Organic compounds are oxidised ultimately to carbon dioxide and water
- The UV light used is of 365nm which is safe to human and complied with IEC standard
|
Trial Application and Expected Outcome |
- Installing TiO2 nano-photocatalytic air-purifying devices at EMSD headquarters 4/F male toilet and test its 1) anti-bacterial; 2) anti-fungal; and 3) air-purification effect
- Overall averaged percentage of reduction of Total Airborne Bacteria is 53.46%
- Overall averaged percentage of reduction of Total Airborne Fungi is 52.11%
- Overall Air Quality Effect after air purification with testing device measured by PM2.5; CO2; HCHO and TVOC resulted from "Normal" to "Good"
