Surveillance of Indoor Airborne Respiratory Pathogens and Preliminary Standard Development
(REF: S-1557) |
Trial Project |
|
Solution Feature |
- The proposed indoor pathogen monitoring system is a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) system can achieve multiplexing through air sampling and simultaneously detect more than 40 respiratory pathogens (including the SARS-CoV-2) in 1.5 hours.
- Improve Operational Efficiency: truly all-in-one fully automatic diagnostic system from sample input, to insert cartridge, give commands and results. No complicated sample pre-handling required.
- Reduce Traditional PCR testing cost: Low-cost per test at HKD500/test for 42 pathogens targets, hence around HKD 12 per target per test, compared with traditional PCR testing at HKD1,467 per test for 22 targets.
- Achieve high sensitivity and specificity for PCR testing.
- Suitable for different scenarios smart application.
|
Trial Application and Expected Outcome |
- Air sampling will be conducted by an air sampler and a disposable air sampling cartridge that can trap particles onto collection substrate.
- PCR testing will be performed by a multiplex PCR machine and microfluidic cartridge of respiratory panel.
- Innovative air sampling from air streams of different air handling units (AHUs) which includes making of connecting ducts from AHU inlet to air samplers.
- Simulation experiment will be conducted to develop reference standard on level of individual airborne respiratory pathogen based on PCR testing and enhance OSH.
