Development of a Chemical Repellent Microcapsule for Wild Birds Dispersing in Urban Area

I&T Solution Development of a Chemical Repellent Microcapsule for Wild Birds Dispersing in Urban Area
(REF: S-1657)
Trial Project
Solution Feature
  • Develop a microcapsule to encapsulate a chemical bird repellent to repel pigeons.
  • Low impact on pedestrians compared to other conventional solutions such as ultrasound, bird spikes or shiny objects.
  • Offer an extended working duration by its prolonged chemical release, particularly beneficial for areas that are challenging and costly to maintain, such as the bridge top.
  • Adjust bird-repellent concentration at a safe level for humans & birds and regulate the repellent effect through a microcapsule release control mechanism.
  • Suitable for both manual spraying inside the bridge and unmanned vehicle-assisted coating processes for the bridge top or other high locations.
Trial Application and Expected Outcome
  • Laboratory tests, release profile of bird repellent, weather tests for coating, repellent efficiency
  • Trial implementation of new developed products on the Central Market footbridge
  • Performance evaluation by pigeon counting before and after treatment
  • Stability test for repellent duration
  • Surveying
