Germ-repellent Sanitary Equipment
(REF: S-0148) |
Trial Project |
|
Solution Feature |
- Germ-repellent plastics are applied to sanitary equipment such as toilet seat, waste trap, cistern, toilet roll holder, flush valve and showerhead. This proven technology dwarf microbial growth onto plastic surface by preventing its surface association and subsequent colonization, for healthy living and betterment of hygiene.
- Conventional antibacterial products mostly involve biocides and silver based antimicrobial agents. It runs a risk of leaching the bacterial-killing actives to fixtures surface that can cause appearance change, trigger skin allergy and promote evolution of biocide-resistant bacteria. It also provides a temporary antibacterial function only.
- This germ-repellent technology incorporates antimicrobial function through material modifications. It is biocide-free, leach-free, non-toxic which builds-in to materials and avoids cross-transmission of germs. This solution provides easy-to-clean and safe-to-use products, with long lasting germ-repellent capability.
- Over 90% germ-repellent efficacy on one gram-positive bacteria strain (e.g. Staphylococcus aureus) and one gram-negative bacteria strain (e.g. Escherichia coli). Negligible effect on physical properties after material modification. This technology is also compatible with standard plastic manufacturing processes.
- Sanitary equipment often encourages bacteria attachment onto surface and increases chances of microbial infections to human, due to warm and humid surrounding conditions. We addressed this problem by repelling germs off and avoiding creation of bacteria-populated biofilm.

Trial Application and Expected Outcome |
- Set up germ-repellent sanitary equipment at allowed test location, inspect and collect data of the germ-repellent efficacy from fixture surface regularly. Compare the experimental results between germ-repellent fixtures and unmodified fixtures under the same testing conditions.
- Analyze and verify the results through guided standards. Extend this technology to various communities to provide a hygiene environment for using the sanitary equipment.
