(REF: S-0149) |
Trial Project |
|
Solution Feature |
- More than 100,000 tonnes of glass bottles are disposed to landfills every year. The antimicrobial recycled glass tiles consist of more than 75% recycled glass from waste glass bottles. This glass tiles are colorful that they can be used as floor and wall tiles in public toilets.
- The use of antimicrobial recycled glass to make tile can reduce the landfill burden in Hong Kong, reduce the use of natural materials.
- These tiles have good antimicrobial property that it can assist to maintain a good hygienic environment in public area.
- These tiles have high compressive strength (> 112 MPa), low water absorption (< 4 %), good scratch resistance (Moh’s hardness ≥ 5) and good stain resistance (5, ISO 10545-14:1997).
- These tiles have good slip resistance (> 48 for wet surface, ≥ for dry surface, BS 7976:Part 2:2002) and excellent flammability proof (Class A, ASTM E84-16).
|
Trial Application and Expected Outcome |
- These tiles can be applied as wall tiles inside public toilet. The total bacteria count attached on these tiles can be determined at specified period of time e.g. after 6 months of installation.
- Under the similar environmental conditions, the total bacterial count attached on these tiles can be compared to that on the traditional tiles inside the same toilet.
