  • Project target: To develop solar-powered compacting refuse bin for household waste collection
  • Problem/Challenge: produce a system to compact the waste in effective way
  • Feasible Solution: i.) The battery of refuse bin can be recharged by solar power
  • ii.) Automatically compacting waste if the amount of waste reaches certain levels
  • iii.) Warning if the refuse bin is almost full
Trial Application and Expected Outcome
  • The test trial can be conducted outside the building of EMSD
  • The effectiveness can be compared with the traditional refuse bin
  • If the total treated waste amount is much higher than traditional refuse bin does, test trial can be conducted in different district of Hong Kong
  • The total amount of waste disposed everyday is much more than the capacity of refuse bin, this solution can maximize the capacity of refuse bin
  • The problem of littering can also be alleviated
