Self-sanitising Door Handle
(REF: S-0323) |
Trial Project |
|
Solution Feature |
- Photocatalytic coatings can provide self-cleaning properties, such as removing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and killing microorganisms including bacteria, fungi and virus.
- The photocatalytic coatings requires suitable light source, mainly UV light. However, UV in indoor environment is usually very weak and is inadequate to activate the coating with desirable antibacterial properties.
- Our door handle is designed with embedded UV LED, which can supply a constant light source to activate the glass handle which is coated with photocatalyst. The photocatytic coating is also bonded onto the glass surface, providing high durability.
- The handle requires a standard 13A socket near the door frame, and our engineering team will prepare the transformer and wiring to connect the door handle from the 13A socket. The transformer will be operated at low voltage of around 5V.
- The self-sanitizing door handle passed the RoHS test and can kill up to 99.9% of bacteria, as tested by independent third party.
|
Trial Application and Expected Outcome |
- To select a few types and shapes of door handle, door lever, and/or other touchable components. Investigate the possibility to apply the coating technology onto such components.
- Each site to install the trial product should consist of more than 1 "parallel site", where the original handle will be used side-by-side for comparison of antibacterial performance.
- Install the door handle with photocatalytic coating to various sites. For sites with brighter lighting system/environment, a version without the embedded LED will be installed alongside the one with embedded LED.
- Bacteria test will be conducted to evaluate the performance. Agar plate spreading and the use of ATP luminometer will be used as the testing methods.
- The trial can help us to gather performance and durability of the real life application of the coating technology, as well as evaluating the possibility to utilize light from the environment to simplify the product to use without electricity.
