The Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Drone to Assist with External Wall Inspection for Government Buildings
(REF: S-0670) |
Trial Project |
|
Solution Feature |
- Dedicated sensors are installed on the drone to detect the defects on the outer wall of the government building automatically using AI technology.
- Surfel-based perception technology is implemented on the drone platform to achieve real-time mapping and obstacle avoidance in all directions. Strong anti-wind function is equipped to ensure the stability and safety of the drone, with wind resistance of up to 15m/s and Ingress Protection Rating of IP45.
- The wireless network function of the drone will support high-speed data transmission and encrypted by the AES-256 encryption to ensure data security.
- Multiple deep learning models are available to select for detecting different kinds of defects on the building.
|
Trial Application and Expected Outcome |
- The test trial can be conducted at the government building of EMSD or CYT Building of HKUST, so that staff can test the UAV system and verify its effectiveness.
- The inspection effect of the solution can be compared with the inspection work done by human.
- If the inspection effect is similar or better than human does, the UAV based inspection system can be tested at other government building.
- If the inspection effect is similar or better than human does, the UAV based inspection system can be tested at other government building.
- The AI algorithm used in this project can detect the defects on the wall automatically so that the worker can conduct the inspection work easily. The advanced AI-based perception algorithm can also guarantee centimeter-level location for the drone, which is better than other drones on the market.
