Smart Refuse Bin at Remote Sites

I&T Wish Smart Refuse Bin at Remote Sites
(REF : W-0112)
Matched I&T Solution
Trial Project
Summary and Challenges

This project aims to develop smart refuse bins which can provide real-time data (e.g. fill level) for status monitoring, prediction and more efficient deployment of manpower resources.

The current problem is that the amount of refuse collected at remote sites (e.g. beaches) varies with seasonal traffic, which is hardly predictable. This leads to difficulties in manpower and resources planning and allocation.

The smart bin, to be powered by solar PV panels and equipped with IoT capability, should provide remote monitoring of its fill-level status, thereby allowing just-in-time clearing to prevent overflowing which poses health and environmental issues. Most importantly, it should facilitate better and more effective deployment of manpower in clearing refuse bins.

Expected Outcome To develop smart refuse bin with IoT capability.
Expected Trial Duration 12 months
