Summary and Challenges

The objective of the project is to establish a monitoring system for DC stray current in the MTR railway system and to propose reduction measures.

The project shall:

  • Analyse the root causes of DC stray current;
  • Propose measures to reduce DC stray current with reference to international standards;
  • Develop an online continuous monitoring system for DC stray current and find out the key factors that affect railway safety; and
  • Provide early warning to the train driver and operation control centre when abnormal conditions are detected.
Expected Outcome To develop a system for effective monitor and reduction of dc stray current in railway system
