Trial Project
Summary and Challenges
This project aims to design a rope inspection device using magnetic flux leakage (MFL) technology and giant magnetoresistive (GMR) sensor which can be placed near the rotating part of the lift machine to perform inspection for multiple ropes simultaneously and automatically during the maintenance operation of lifts. This device can assist lift maintenance workers to search and locate the position of cracks for ropes especially the inner part in order to improve the quality of maintenance work for lift suspension ropes.
Expected Outcome
To design a rope inspection device using magnetic flux leakage (MFL) technology and giant magnetoresistive (GMR) sensors for elevator suspension rope inspection
Device mounting shall be designed to suit for the installation at lift machines
To perform testing for multiple ropes simultaneously and automatically
Capable for inspection under the situation of different rope to rope distance
Inspection can be performed without dismantling ropes from existing elevators
Expected Trial Duration
12 Months
