IoT Blocks - Developing IoT Network (LoRaWAN) on Blockchain Technologies

I&T Wish IoT Blocks - Developing IoT Network (LoRaWAN) on Blockchain Technologies
(REF: W-0342)
Matched I&T Solution
Trial Project
Summary and Challenges
  • The Government-Wide IoT Network (GWIN) had been massively rolled-out by EMSD since late 2018. This massive IoT network aims at providing remote monitoring and possible controls through LoRaWAN, one of the Low-Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) technologies family.
  • GWIN shall be capable of handling multi-tenants and, at the same time, managing the data flow and assets within the network. Hence, Security and Traceability are two major concerns on this aspect. Poor security may cause poor data quality and consistency, jeopardizing the effectiveness of GWIN on the whole. Poor traceability may cause inconsistency in controls and poor tenants management, leading to lack of audit-able records and randomness in the system, losing clients trust on the system.
Expected Outcome
  • The IoTBlocks aims at managing assets, data flow, workflow of GWIN using blockchain technologies to enhance the security level and the traceability of the IoT network on the whole.
  • IoTBlocks should be able to enhance the traceability and security of GWIN which creates a Zero-Trust environment with audit-able records and well-managed services with sufficient workflows and access controls using blockchain technology.
  • Cloud platform would be used to minimize the preparation time.
  • The project serves as a Proof-of-Concept project that shows the feasibility and value of applying Blockchain on operation and management of IoT Network.
Expected Trial Duration 6-month
