Summary and Challenges The project aims to establish an automated inspection system based on 5G and drones technologies, make use of drones-control cloud platform, drones and 5G communication module to form a "cloud-network-terminal” integrated capability. Drone data from flight to videos captured can be transmitted over 5G (with 4G as fallback support) remotely. If flight conditions are met, remote control of drones can also be realized. For applications, the cloud platform abstracts the behavior of drone into different types of action instructions so complete set of operating procedure can be formed. Besides, payload can obtain data at key nodes for specific maintenance task execution. After completing the flight task, the data is processed with AI algorithm for defect identification.

  • Drone platform that provides flight task scheduling, waypoint flight, and data acquisition and analysis services
  • An AI-based tool for automatic solar panel recognition and defect detection using infrared imaging
