Summary and Challenges
  • To develop a standalone real time non-facial recognized object detection and alert system (e.g. LIDAR, Radar or any other similar type of technology) mounted on a tram car able to work in daytime, nighttime and bad weather to prevent tram derailment incident due to tram wheel hitting a small foreign object on tram track.
  • The instant data collected would be analyzed by AI technology to determine if the object in front of a tram makes the depth of rail groove become less than 29mm and form a potential hazard to tram operation. And then initiate the alert to the tram driver for action.
Expected Outcome
  • Development of an object detection system for preventing tram derailment incident due to tram wheel hitting a small / foreign object on tram track.
