Summary and Challenges
To develop a standalone real time non-facial recognized object detection and alert system (e.g. LIDAR, Radar or any other similar type of technology) mounted on a tram car able to work in daytime, nighttime and bad weather to prevent tram derailment incident due to tram wheel hitting a small foreign object on tram track.
The instant data collected would be analyzed by AI technology to determine if the object in front of a tram makes the depth of rail groove become less than 29mm and form a potential hazard to tram operation. And then initiate the alert to the tram driver for action.
Expected Outcome
Development of an object detection system for preventing tram derailment incident due to tram wheel hitting a small / foreign object on tram track.
