Summary and Challenges
To provide an effective method of counting people for large scale events, a video analytics system is to be developed for counting the number of people in a specific area from a long-distance location. Some video and/or image capturing devices are expected to be included in this system. They provide one or more images/videos from a single or multiple view(s), captured from long-distance location(s). One or more edge device(s) for counting the number of people shall analyze static images and/or dynamic videos correlatedly to have a correct count of people within a specific area, either indoor or outdoor. The VA system shall be strongly sensitive to different lighting conditions. In addition, it shall capture images/videos with necessary quality in various conditions. It would also be connected to the public cloud service for further data analytics.
Project Challenges:
Able to provide high quality images and videos under different condition
To transfer the image/video to the public cloud service after removing human characteristics
To provide weatherproof design for handling different weather (e.g. IP55)
Provision of handshaking mechanism with common public cloud service
Expected Outcome
A video analytics system that provides: installed video and/or image capturing device, image/video analytics, edge devices with required standards and a backend system connected to the public cloud service.
