Enhancement of Water Sports Safety at Kwun Tong Typhoon Shelter

I&T Wish Enhancement of Water Sports Safety at Kwun Tong Typhoon Shelter
(REF : W-0390)
Matched I&T Solution
Trial Project
Summary and Challenges
  • The Energizing Kowloon East Office (EKEO) of the Development Bureau is promoting the co-use of Kwun Tong Typhoon Shelter together with the Kai Tak Approach Channel for water sports. It is expected that more recreational and water sports activities will take place there in near future and may raise interface issues between such activities and the marine traffic. Marine safety is our prime concern in implementing this initiative in particular how we can avoid the possible conflicts between the water sports participants and the operation of the vessels within the same typhoon shelter. In this connection, it is necessary to develop a comprehensive system with the aid of innovative technologies and artificial intelligence to monitor the waterbody and water sports activities with prior warning so as to safeguard all the water sports participants and marine vessels in this area.
Expected Outcome
  • With the adoption of innovative solutions to monitor marine safety at Kwun Tong Typhoon Shelter and Kai Tak Approach Channel, the recreational and water sports activities will be successfully organized in a safe manner.
Expected Trial Duration 12-month
