Summary and Challenges
  • To tackle the COVID-19 epidemic, the Drainage Services Department (DSD) have applied sewage surveillance to identify the asymptomatic COVID-19 patients in the community. The auto samplers have played a key role.
  • The project aims at equipping the existing auto samplers with the NB-IoT technology. Users can set the parameters of the sampling program and monitor the sampler remotely, especially the clogging alert. Since the sampler is operated in manhole, size, water resistance and corrosion problems may need to be taken into the design considerations of the sampler.
Expected Outcome The expected outcomes of the project are as follows :
  1. Equipping the existing sampler with the NB-IoT technology, including optimization of circuits, electronic components and programs;
  2. Setting up a Web Interface Platform for parameter setting and real-time monitoring;
  3. Conducting on-site trail in manholes for optimization;
  4. Manufacturing 10 prototype samplers.
