Summary and Challenges |
- EMSD promotes Feed-in-tariff (FiT) scheme that aims to encourage the uptake of renewable energy. With aggressive promotion in recent years, over 10,000 solar energy system applications with FiT were reported. Sustainable profit and efficiency of the solar energy system are owners' and users' top concerns.
- However, problems might be realised months after the payment bill is received due to the lack of a real-time monitoring system. Furthermore, most solar energy systems are installed on building roofs or remotely, where inspection is troublesome.
- This project aims to develop a set of data acquisition devices to collect operational data of existing PV installations using IoT technology.
|
Expected Outcome |
- The solution provider shall be responsible for designing, supplying, and installing a set of data acquisition devices to collect operational data of existing PV installations at the designated premise. The data collected shall be sent wirelessly to a designated cloud server.
- Device Requirements:
- The sensors must be able to collect the following parameters - Ambient temperature, humidity, solar irradiance, atmospheric pressure, wind speed, wind direction;
- PV panel surface temperature;
- PV panel DC output voltage, current, power;
- Inverter DC input & AC output voltage, current, power.
- An exchangeable battery should power the devices. The devices must be designed for outdoor use and withstand adverse weather conditions. The devices should collect data at an adjustable sampling rate or schedule. The devices must be able to be communicated wirelessly (via LoRaWan, Wifi, or 4G Gateway) to store the collected data at a designated cloud server with a specific data format with the timestamp.
