Trial Project
Summary and Challenges
In order to enhance supervision and ensure the safety of inmates accommodated in protected cells / single person cells of a correctional institution, the project aims to apply a contactless (or non-wearable) detection sensor for monitoring the vital signs of an inmate when he/she is inside his/her cell alone.
The sensor should run 24/7 and be able to detect the following vital signs in real time :
(a) Presence Status (vacant / occupied / in motion)
(b) Heart Rate in beats per minute
(c) Respiration Rate in breathes per minute
The detection should still be able to function when the inmate is covered by a thin blanket.
The system should allow operators to remotely monitor the vital signs of inmates at the system workstation. Alarms should be triggered to notify operators when abnormalities in an inmate’s vital sign is detected. No access to any data is allowed via the extranet, cloud services or any external means.
Expected Outcome
A complete solution with vital sign detection sensors, workstations, dashboard and other necessary equipment to deliver an alarm mechanism for correctional officers, so that they can have a better and quicker judgement on whether the inmate inside the cell requires immediate attention or action.
Expected Trial Duration
18-month
