The Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) is crucial for the safe landing, takeoff, and taxiing of aircraft during low visibility and night-time conditions. However, the rubber deposits left by the wheels of aircraft during landing can block the emitted light and compromise aviation safety.
The maintenance team is responsible for regularly checking and removing these deposits from the light fittings and prisms to ensure sufficient luminous intensity. However, cleaning the deposits especially on the small prisms manually under the short maintenance window of Hong Kong International Airport makes the cleaning process labour-intensive and time-consuming.
To address the difficult problem and constraints, we are looking for an automatically operated robot combining cleaning and unmanned mobile platform technologies.
Expected Outcome
The robot is unmanned and could realize the secondary positioning through AI image recognition for cleaning, automatic light survey cleaning operations, job task monitoring, equipment monitoring, as well as graphical display of key data of lamps, cleaning records and other big data analysis. With the use of this new robot, maintenance efficiency will be greatly enhanced.
Expected Trial Duration
12-month
