Trial Project
Summary and Challenges
  • Working at height safety is of great importance to prevent accidents, injuries and loss of human life from falls. In particular, at the arena of sports centres with lighting installation installed at a height of over 7 metres, subsequent operation and maintenance (O&M) works including inspection, repair and replacement inevitably involve working at height. In current practice, working platform is applied to carry out the works at height, which requires considerable time for preparation and setup works.
  • The project aims to facilitate the inspection, maintenance and even replacement of lighting installation at height which in turn helps to minimize or avoid working at height and the use of working platform, thereby reducing the risk from falls during O&M.
Expected Outcome
  • The comprehensive solution shall reduce the O&M procedure for lighting installation that involves working at height through the adoption of robotic solution, advanced lighting technology or other suitable technology.
  • The solution shall be practically considered with regard to facilitate and favour quick inspection and replacement of lighting installation at height. Worth consideration shall be taken including safety risk in undertaking the replacement of lighting installation and the potential risks to others. It enables maintenance personnel to quick inspect, replace, and facilitate corrective maintenance by lessening the setup time and even reducing the use of mobile working platform.
  • It aims to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the inspection, repair and replacement works for the lighting installation at height.
