Summary and Challenges
  • Several cases of dump truck overturning incidents f were occurred in recent years. The probable causes include overloading, uneven ground conditions, uneven loading in the dump box and tilting on sloping ground.
  • Apart from installation of sensors on dump trucks, we would like to explore utilizing video analytics to oversee CEDD worksites to prevent overturning of dump trucks.
Expected Outcome
  • The target of this trial project is to deploy video analytics by AI on CCTV (e.g. deep learning) in CEDD worksites such as reclamation and site formation projects and alert dump truck drivers as well as relevant site management staff for potential overturning accidents.
  • The system shall include the following features
    • A well-trained AI that could recognize over-tilting of dump trucks recorded on CCTV.
    • Potential overturning dump trucks shall be highlighted and return signal to control room and relevant management staff of the site.
    • Immediate alert to dump truck drivers and relevant site management staff through alarm system.
