Summary and Challenges
  • Water dripping from air-conditioner is regarded a statutory sanitary nuisance, failure to abate the said nuisance would be liable for prosecution by FEHD
  • Around 30, 000 caseload would be dealt with by FEHD annually
  • Investigation is challenging, complicated and always encountered the following situations:
    1. Ascertain water dripping source in dim light environment or at night time;
    2. Multiple water dripping sources from air-conditioners installed in different floors of multi-storey buildings; and
    3. Considerable far distance between water dripping source and the point of observation.
Expected Outcome
  • Without prejudice to prevailing laws and the rights of privacy, the innovation and new technology including utilized tool(s) shall be portable, easy-to-use, durable, accurate and cost-effective to facilitate the case investigation so as to identify the sources of water dripping from air-conditioners or promote its potentials despite the low-light conditions in the environment, the distances between sources and the observer and the presence of multiple sources.
