The wish arises from the aging pipework in hospitals. These pipes, despite still being functional, pose a risk of leakage and burst due to wear and tear.
Currently, visual inspection is primarily carried out to identify positions with corrosion and the spots of water leakage, but this method cannot thoroughly monitor the condition of the pipes and the locations of some pipes may not be easily accessible for inspection.
Without sufficient information, maintenance and replacement works cannot be scheduled easily and the emergency replacement works can only be done after the leakage or burst of the water pipes.
Expected Outcome
We would like to obtain more information regarding the condition of the pipes, e.g. thickness of the pipes, so that we can plan ahead for the maintenance or replacement works.
A robot that utilizes non-destructive testing (NDT) technologies, e.g. ultrasonic waves, to test the conditions of the pipes.
The robots can clamp on the pipes mechanically or magnetically to scan the pipes.
Expected Trial Duration
9-month
