Trial Project
Summary and Challenges
  • In medical procedures, elastic tourniquet is adopted to temporarily restrict blood flow in the patient's limb. However, it is important to note that if the tourniquet is left on for an extended period of time, it can lead to severe damage to the patient's body and, in certain cases, may even necessitate amputation. To address this concern and prioritize patient safety, the implementation of an Intelligent Tourniquet Management System is recommended.
  • This system is designed to enhance patient safety by reducing the risk of human error and minimizing the potential for complications arising from tourniquet misuse.
Expected Outcome
  • Our objective is to develop an intelligent Tourniquet Management System that effectively monitors and regulates the usage time of tourniquets on individual patients. The system will serve as a reminder for clinical staff to ensure the timely removal of tourniquets within a pre-defined duration. The Intelligent Tourniquet Management System will incorporate an alarm system that is triggered when a tourniquet exceeds the pre-defined time limit. This alert prompts clinical staff to promptly check the patient and minimize the risk of potential harm.
  • It is crucial to note that the Intelligent Tourniquet Management System will be compatible with existing disposable tourniquets, eliminating the need for users to acquire additional types of tourniquets. The system will include a tourniquet dispenser equipped with code printing capabilities for each tourniquet. This enables the system to record the individual registration time for blood collection and the corresponding code printing information for each patient. When the pre-defined time limit is surpassed, the system will display the relevant information on a dashboard, accompanied by a buzzer alarm indicator and messaging notification. The code printing format and information displayed on the tourniquet will be configurable by users to accommodate specific requirements.
  • Furthermore, the Intelligent Tourniquet Management System will be designed to be compact in size, ensuring operational conveneience during blood collection procedures.
  • The printed information on Tourniquet shall not contain any patient and nurse information due to privacy issues.
