Trial Project
Summary and Challenges
Signboard control in existing buildings is crucial for public safety especially for pedestrians and building occupants. A patrol vehicle would be assigned for the inspection work on the signboards. By leveraging advanced electronics equipment including LiDAR, Satellite Positioning (e.g. GPS, BeiDou), edge processing and, nonetheless, 5G, an effective 3D environment scanning on the physical appearance and simultaneous localisation and mapping (SLAM), should be achieved.
Expected Outcome
The System shall be able to achieve the following:
Be a mobile system, i.e. system shall be operable on a moving vehicle
Identifying the dimensions (Height, Width, Length) of the signboards detected
Accurately map and position the signboards detected
Aggregate multiple data collection equipment onto an edge processor
Establish an effective database system for storage of the 3D and colours image data together with the metadata of the signboards
Being able to perform 3D reconstruction of the streets on Open-source libraries
Develop API to integrate with third-party system(s)
To be able to connect to third-party system(s) and/or centralised server via high-speed mobile connectivity (e.g. 5G connection)
