Trial Project
Summary and Challenges
In order to enhance supervision and ensure the safety of inmates accommodated in a correctional institution, the project aims to apply a detection sensor embedded in the bed of inmate for monitoring the respective vital signs. The sensor should run 24/7 round-the-clock and be able to detect the following vital signs of the inmate in real time:
Use Status (Vacant/ Bed in use)
Heart Rate in beats per minute
Respiration Rate in breathes per minute
The detection should still be able to function when the detection sensor is covered by a thin mattress. The system should allow operators to remotely monitor the vital signs of inmates at the system workstation. Alarms should be triggered to notify operators when any abnormalities in the inmate’s vital signs are detected. No access to any data is allowed via the internet, cloud services or any external means.
Expected Outcome
A complete solution with vital sign detection sensors, workstations, dashboards and other necessary equipment to deliver an alarm mechanism for correctional officers, so that they can have a better and quicker judgement on whether the inmate on bed requires immediate attention or action.
Expected Trial Duration
18-month
