Summary and Challenges
  • The Photovoltaic (PV) system is a prevalent renewable energy solution in Hong Kong. The efficiency and productivity of power generation by PV panels are largely reliant on the cleanliness of the panels. However, due to limited access to the PV panels and high labor costs, the surfaces of PV panels are rarely cleaned. This lack of cleaning leads to a waste of the power generation capabilities of the PV system, preventing the system from operating at its maximum capacity.
Expected Outcome
  • Utilizing a robotic system, the robot can perform regular cleaning of the PV panels. The robot will be powered by both solar energy and a built-in battery, eliminating the need for additional power sources and wiring for the robotic system. Additionally, an AI, video analytics, positioning system or radar system could be integrated to record the movement of the cleaning robot and monitor the cleanliness of the PV panel surfaces.
