Application of Quadruped Robots in Fogging Operations for Mosquito Control

I&T Wish Application of Quadruped Robots in Fogging Operations for Mosquito Control
(REF: W-0551)
Matched I&T Solution
Trial Project
Summary and Challenges
  • At present, mosquitoes resting deep inside the densely vegetated areas could hardly be reached with knapsack type or trolley-mounted type ULV foggers. Pest control workers need to wear coverall and a set of protective gears including goggle, mask, gloves, boots and carry a knapsack ULV fogger of about 20kg for conducting fogging operations.
  • To improve the occupational safety and health, this project aims to develop a robotics-enabled automatic fogger by mounting a ULV fogger on a quadruped robot. The subject fogger would be modified by a handheld ULV fogger to be provided by the user. It shall be able to rotate horizontally and vertically in certain extent; completed with an AI enabled remote control for turning on or off as well as controlling rotation of the fogger so that fogging could be conducted precisely at specific locations with scrubby/ densely vegetations.
Expected Outcome
  • A prototype robotics system shall be designed, developed, constructed, tested and commissioned with a user provided handheld ULV cold fogging equipment on turning table and battery-driven chassis.
  • The subject prototype robotics shall be able to perform both manual and automatic control for fogging operation in different terrain, including stairways, scrubby area, sloped area, hillsides, inclines, pathways, trails and smooth ground. A front camera shall be available to allow the operator to have a clear picture of terrain to facilitate the safe operation of the robot.
Expected Trial Duration 2-month
