Summary and Challenges
The water plumbing system in a building usually includes sump tanks and roof tanks. According to the Water Supplies Department’s (WSD) requirements, registered agents or management offices should cleanse the fresh water tanks and flushing water tanks once every 3 months and 6 months respectively, or more frequently if necessary. Nowadays, the water tanks are cleansed by competent persons who face the risks including heatstroke, suffocation, working in confined spaces, etc.
This project aims to develop a smart water robot to cleanse water tank automatically that can fulfill WSD's requirement, enhance occupational safety and health (OHS) as well as improve the quality and efficiency of cleaning. The robot shall equip AI function to check the quality after cleansing. The trial site is planned in the water tanks of EMSD Headquarter.
Expected Outcome
The Smart Water Tank Cleansing Robot shall suit the current conditions of water tanks in different types of public buildings in Hong Kong includes sump tanks and roof tanks, work in high temperature condition, water-proof design and avoid obstacles.
The robot will be deployed in operating water tank, therefore, it shall be able to cleanse for floors, walls, and water lines with high-pressure washing, scrubbing, sludge suction, as well as spraying detergents and disinfectants.
The robot shall be automatic that it has functions of automatic route planning, automatic return to starting point, automatic self-cleaning, automatic control of diving depth.
The robot shall have real-time monitoring, provide cleaning records including cleaned areas image recording etc. AI Self-quality checking, including uncleaned area and blind corners, is required.
