Trial Project
Summary and Challenges
  • Typhoon Shelter is a place for safe vessels anchorage during typhoons and severe weather conditions. Also, there is potential co-use between vessels and water recreational activities. Regular management is required to ensure safe operation. For example, vessels shall be properly berthed within designated areas. Traditional management methods (such as manual inspections and supervision through video surveillance) have limitations including limited coverage, time-consuming and labor-intensive inspections, and insufficient data.
  • This project aims to develop an AI-powered video analytics system to enhance the management of typhoon shelters. The system shall also improve safety & security and support emergency, investigation & law enforcement.
Expected Outcome
  • This project aims to achieve the following objectives:
    • Video analytics supported by deep learning AI shall provide user with real-time classification of each object.
    • Identify vessel locations and movements in real-time, detect violations and anomaly (e.g. Vessel exceeding the speed limit, unusual object blocking passageway, etc.)
    • Alert system for security if vessel is parked outside mooring area for a period of time. Parameters or rules of notification system shall be adjustable to suit preference and needs of each personnel.
    • Web-based application platform for user to access real-time analysis and video footage. Application shall be able to display real-time analysis of footage such as distance/Length Measurement between the vessel and the coast, and highlight notable observations from VA.
    • Video analytics summarizes information, such as vessel counts entering and exiting the typhoon shelter, and occupancy of typhoon shelter.
    • Email & SMS notification for immediate alerts, daily overview, snapshot and summary statistics.
Expected Trial Duration 9-month
