Summary and Challenges
  • Majority of Electrocution inside bathroom were resulted from multiple faults of the electrical system. The most common scenario is the live cable of a faulty fixed electrical installation accidentally connected to the equipotential bonding of the bathroom. At the same time, the designated earthing system was defeated. Under this scenario, if someone touch the metallic part, e.g. water pipe, inside the bathroom, the fault current will then earthed though the body of that person. It is difficult for public to identify the abovementioned scenario, that said, electrocution under this scenario may not be easily avoided.
  • In this connection, this project would like to design a passive fault or voltage detection device by application of inductive coupling and radio frequency energy harvesting technology to detect the fault at metallic part.
Expected Outcome
  1. To design a passive fault or voltage detection device to detect the voltage or frequency of the metallic part which act as a path for the fault current.
  2. The device shall be tiny, compact and slim and shall be easily fixed on the metallic part.
  3. The device shall contain warning light or warning alarm to alert user when voltage or frequency was detected.
  4. Literature paper shall be submitted.
